You sold the car. The registration is gone. The DMV letter is still on the counter. That is a real situation, not a loophole. The state wants proof that you carry liability, not that a specific VIN is insured.
A non-owner liability policy lets a carrier file the SR22 without listing a vehicle you do not have. The long guide is non-owner SR22. The short version: tell us you do not own a car when you call. That is step two on How it works.
What it is not
It is not coverage on a car you buy next month. Title a vehicle and you need an owner policy. Keep the filing continuous through that switch. A one-day gap can suspend the license again and restart the term — the same warning as on the homepage.
It is also not a cheaper way to ignore a DUI order. The reason on the letter still sets the premium. Read DUI letter next steps if alcohol is why they wrote you.
Where we file it
Same 48-state idea: we file in the states on this site. If Iowa ordered it, start at Iowa SR22. Colorado: Colorado SR22. Streets for the Iowa and Colorado cities with a listed address are on those city pages and on Contact. Other cities get the city name and (866) 778-1093 only.
How the certificate moves is in how an SR22 filing works. What you pay is still a filing fee plus a policy — quotes versus the filing fee and the quotes guide.
